Martin Rusnak is a Full Professor of Public Health at the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Care and Social Work, Trnava University, Slovakia. Prof. Rusnak has a PhD in Public Health (Oncology), specializing in health policy (Health in All Policies), evidence-based public health, and health systems strengthening across diverse settings, including post-conflict environments. His expertise spans clinical practice guideline development and implementation, quality of care, health informatics, epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and health surveillance.
He has led and contributed to international projects on guideline development for hypertension, diabetes, traumatic brain injury, emergency medical services, and antimicrobial resistance across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean. He brings extensive experience in health policy advisory roles, programme evaluation, and reform implementation, including leadership positions in large-scale EU-funded modernization and public health reform initiatives.
His field experience includes long-term assignments in Kenya, South Sudan, St Lucia, and Jamaica, as well as policy development work with ministries of health across Europe. He has also led training programmes in Health in All Policies and community-based prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Since 2007, he has held academic positions in public health, teaching at undergraduate to doctoral levels. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and three monographs, and actively contributes to international academic and professional networks.
