Alena Petrakova

Board member, Czech Society of Social Medicine and Health Management, CzMA

Assoc. Prof. Alena Petrakova, MD, PhD, is a medical doctor with specialty diplomas in paediatrics, medical genetics, and public health. She has over three decades of experience in public health at the global, regional, and national levels. She is a former Head of the School of Public Health at the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education in Prague, Czech Republic; a former WHO technical/medical officer working in the area of health systems strengthening, including health workforce development (1999–2009); and a former senior adviser and expert at ECDC (2009–2014). She is a past president of EUPHA and a long-term collaborator with ASPHER (since 1994). In January 2023, she joined the Faculty of Health Sciences at Palacky University in Olomouc to support the development of public health capacities at both graduate and postgraduate levels, particularly the new doctoral programme in Health Promotion. Since 2023, she has been a member of the WHO/Europe Technical Advisory Group on Risk Communication, Community Engagement and Infodemic Management (TAG RCCE-IM). Furthermore, she is a board member of the Czech Society of Social Medicine and Health Management, Czech Medical Association of J. E. Purkyne (CzMA).
